Websites for Non-Profits

Websites for Non-ProfitsAs a non-profit, an online presence can be essential to promoting your Aims & Objectives, communicating with your users, and showcasing the work you do to potential funders.

However, an online presence can be costly and time consuming to organise for non-profits. In today’s climate with budget cuts and funding limitations, having an online presence is sometimes at the bottom of the list and seen as an expensive addition to your marketing.

However, with Focus-Films, we provide a streamlined service that allows you to have an online presence at the fraction of a cost of other web design companies.

Why Are We Different?

For starters both, James and Duncan have considerable experience in working in the non-profit sector, with their own projects and providing support to others, and both are School for Social Entrepreneurs graduates, therefore we fully understand the day to day difficulties and funding limitations your organsation may be going through.

Secondly, we have put together a streamlined package utilising Open Source packages, that allows us to create your own branded web site which you can have complete control over, so no monthly expensive retainer fees, and all aspects of the site managed by your own staff and volunteers with little to none technical experience required.

What is more we provide free on going technical support, as long as your site is hosted with us.

Website Details

We can register your domain name (.org.uk) and provide web hosting for only £35 per year. This service provides unlimited email forwarders, or up to 5 email accounts. However you do not have access to FTP, but to compensate for that we provide technical support for all server administration and website administration.

For only £550, we will install and configure WordPress, add functionality and brand a theme to your organisations existing marketing (or create a new brand), as well as provide your staff with training on how to use the site to keep it up to date.

Once the site is complete, you will have full control over your site and will be able to add new content through a simple to use admin interface.

What’s more we provide a training session in the site usage, and then will provide free support via telephone, Skype and email. Face-to-Face support is also provided but will be charged an expenses fee to cover traveling costs only.

By contracting our services your outlay costs will be:

  • Year 1: £585 (Initial web hosting and domain registration, site creation and training)
  • Year 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.: £35 (domain renewal and web hosting renewal, paid yearly)

What Do You Get For Your Site?

We will create your site for you, up to 40 pages, based on the content you supply us with, which your organisation will then be able to manage and control through staff and volunteers. On top of the adding your content we provide the generic for your pages which include;

  • Home: General introduction to your site and welcome message
  • Latest News: Section for all your latest news, posts and any other type of article you wish to publish
  • Contact Us: online form and any other public contact details.
  • Links: optional
  • Privacy Policy: We create your privacy policy which will state how you treat peoples data when they contact you
  • Terms and Conditions: We provide a statement on any restrictions on your site and general disclaimer (copyright info, limited rights of use, etc.)

We also choose an existing theme and tweak the code and customise the original design to match your existing branding and make your site more unique.

Site Functionality

WordPress comes along with extensive functionality, but sometimes can be limited depending on your requirements, and apart from adding extra functionality to your site, such as security features, marketing tools, contact forms, basic search engine optimisation, we can also add most functionality that your organisation requires.

Once The Site is Live

Once the site is finished and ready to be published, we will provide you with your required amount of logins for your staff and volunteers. Logins can be restricted to permission levels. The Accounts we would set-up are:

Admin Account: Gives you full control over your website and allows you to change the way the site looks, extend or limit functionality, create or remove any content, allows you to add or remove portfolio albums/images, allow member registrations, control user accounts, create new accounts, and more.
Editor Account: Staff have complete control over existing pages and articles, and can create new pages.
Author Account: Staff can only create and edit their own articles to be published in your Latest News section. Authors can add images to their articles and post without needing the approval of an Admin account.
Contributor Account: Staff can only create and edit articles to be published in the Latest News section. Contributors cannot add images to their artciles, and all articles must be approved by an Admin before appearing live on the site

We also retain an admin account on your site so we can provide you with ongoing technical support directly on your site.

We also realise that taking control over your site can be a learning curve for staff and volunteers, therefore we provide an initial training service to key members of staff, and provide ongoing support through telephone, skye, and email, at no extra charge.

Additionally, we also manually submit your site to the major Search Engines, promote your site through through Focus-Films and the Concepts network (our non profit sites). We also offer guidance on how to better promote your self online.

Why not try yourself?

Focus-Films is different because we are completely honest about our usage of Open Source software for website creation, and we only charge for the work we personally create on your behalf. In fact we encourage others with some technical skills to try and create a website for themselves, and have published a step by step guide on “Lochgelly – Loch of Shining Waters” for creating your own site.

  2. Purchasing Web Space
  3. Installing a Web Site (Open Source)
